Porn Addiction: What Is It?

In the digital age, access to explicit content is more immediate than ever. While many individuals engage in pornography without significant consequences, some experience compulsive use that negatively impact their mental health, relationships, and daily functioning.

Pornography addiction, sometimes referred to as problematic pornography use (PPU) or compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD), is characterized by an individual's inability to control their use of pornography despite adverse consequences. These consequences may include relationship difficulties, reduced sexual satisfaction, decreased productivity, emotional distress, and even social isolation.

Though not officially classified as a distinct mental disorder in the DSM-5, many clinicians and researchers recognize it as a form of behavioral addiction with serious psychological, social, and neurological consequences.
